Grimsby’s Dock Tower will feature in an exhibition at this year’s port Heritage Open Day.
With a month to go until this year’s Port of Grimsby Heritage Open Day on Saturday 14 September the Dock Tower will feature in an exhibition.
With the recent announcement about Associated British Ports (ABP) conservation plan, our project engineer and heritage consultants will be delivering a talk about the proposals and talking through some of the findings.
Simon Bird, Regional Director of the Humber ports said: “Our heritage open days grow year on year and it’s great to see the support made by visitors all interested in the amazing work being carried out in our port at Grimsby.
“We’re pleased to be celebrating trade routes and global connection and delighted the seafood and offshore wind sectors are represented this year. Visitors will be able to see more of the buildings that are being transformed and will have an opportunity to explore inside some.”
This year’s theme is celebrating trade routes and connections, and the event will be exploring the major roles the port has played over the years and to the present day with global connections.
Visitors can listen to talks on various aspects of the port’s history, explore some of the recently restored buildings and listen to music in the marquee. Last year 2,000 visitors enjoyed what is known as the film quarter, as ABP pursues the vision around the restoration of the historic buildings for the film and television industry.
In the marquee you can find Grimsby born seafood chef, Amy Salisbury, representing the Made Great in Grimsby brand who will be cooking up a storm alongside Grimsby’s Master Fishmonger, Ivan Jaines-White.
There’ll also be music from Brad Arliss, Rob Bywater and Roger Beard and the Grimsby & Cleethorpes Sea Cadets will be in attendance again this year. Other organisations on site include the Fishermen’s Mission who will have former fishermen showcasing net braiding, the RNLI, Stella Maris and the Sailors’ Children’s Society.
Entry to the open day, which runs from 10am to 4.30pm is free and car parking will be at the Grimsby Fish Market. Tours are fully booked, but there may be availability on the day so enquire at the Information Point in the marquee.
Recently Grimsby’s port event was selected to appear in the national heritage open day gallery to celebrate the 30th anniversary of heritage open days. Follow our Instagram and X pages to keep updated.
