Associated British Ports (ABP), the UK’s leading ports operator, is delighted to announce the expansion of its commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and community engagement by adding the Ipswich Twilight 5K to its portfolio of supported running events across the UK.

With this latest addition, ABP will be supporting five running events close to its port locations in 2024, including: Cleethorpes (near to ABP’s Port of Grimsby), Southampton and Newport and Cardiff in South Wales. These charity runs include two marathons, four half marathons, three 10K runs and two 5K runs.

Scheduled for Saturday 11 May 2024, the Ipswich Twilight 5K is organised by the Ipswich JAFFA Running Club. Aiming to engage runners of all levels and abilities, the Twilight series will be returning in 2024, after skipping a year in 2023, thanks to ABP’s sponsorship.

Consisting of two races on a flat town centre course, the series includes two events – a 5K and 10K race, with the former following a looped two-lap course around Ipswich Waterfront and including ABP port estate which is usually inaccessible to the public.

ABP’s extended support for the Ipswich Twilight 5K aligns with its commitment to fostering community wellbeing and encouraging an active lifestyle.

Rob Page, Divisional Project Manager at ABP and member of the Ipswich JAFFA Running Club, said:

“We are thrilled to be part of the Ipswich Twilight 5K and to contribute to the return of this fantastic event, which takes a route around our wonderful Waterfront. As a company deeply rooted in the communities we serve, we understand the importance of supporting initiatives that promote health, wellbeing and community spirit.”

Clive Sparks, Ipswich JAFFA Running Club President, commented:

“The Ipswich Twilight 5K holds a special place in our community, and we are grateful to ABP for their support in bringing it back. The event not only celebrates athleticism but also strengthens the bonds within Ipswich as a free spectator event. We look forward to a successful and memorable race.”

To be part of the Twilight races, runners can sign up and find more information on the official event website: www.twilightraces.com.
