The Port of Grimsby’s Heritage Open Day features in the Top 30 national gallery as voted for by the public.

Grimsby is a winner after having been selected to feature in the national gallery for Heritage Open Days!

Thanks to the public votes the port open day has secured a place in the Top 30 gallery for posterity showcasing the wonderful sites and stories that made these events over the last 30 years.

Simon Bird, Regional Director of the Humber ports said: "We are thrilled to have our Grimsby heritage open day feature in the top 30 national gallery.

“Huge thanks to all those who voted for The Port. We know we have something special in our historic quarter and look forward to welcoming everyone to this year’s event. The theme being trades, routes and connections which is a great opportunity to showcase the port’s history and future.”

The Grimsby involvement in the event started many years ago and has grown each time. Resulting last year with around 2,000 visitors coming to the port to learn more about the exciting things happening.

The event, which this year is on Saturday 14 September, features guided tours, talks by various people, exhibitions around the history of the place, buildings open for exploration, seafood filleting and cookery demonstrations, support from our many tenants and charities such as the Fishermen’s Mission, RNLI and Sailors’ Children’s Society.

Emma Lingard, Coporate Communications Manager (Humber) added: “Without the support from our tenants, partners and volunteers this day would not happen. We come together to shout about the many great things happening on the port and showcase the amazing heritage and its history.”

The highlight for this year will be a cooking demonstration by Grimsby born chef Amy Salisbury showcasing the great ways to prepare seafood. There will be a filleting demonstration from a master fishmonger showing how to prepare seafood, and there will be music from local performers.

Grimsby & Cleethorpes Sea Cadets will be performing a drill, and there will be opportunities to visit some of the buildings currently under renovation and learn more about the projects bringing them back to life.
