ABP Southampton Engineering Team took on the 3 Peaks challenge at the weekend to raise funds for ABP’s Charity of the Year, Young Lives vs Cancer, formerly Clic Sargent.
The team left ABP’s Ocean Gate office on Friday 14 July to make the 14-hour trip to Ben Nevis ready for their first ascent the following day. The weather was not on their side, with heavy rain and high winds. Nonetheless, the team completed all three peaks in 29 hours. They finished their challenge at Snowdon at 9pm on Sunday 16 July.
One of the team members, Nicole Geraghty MBE, ABP Maintenance Planner, said: “What a great experience we have had. I certainly underestimated how hard it would be, especially in the bad weather. However, knowing that we raised so much money for Young Lives vs Cancer, Jean’s House, kept us moving.”
ABP Southampton is supporting Young Lives vs Cancer throughout 2023, specifically for Jean’s house, a Home from Home close to Southampton General Hospital. The facility enables families of young cancer patients to live close by during cancer treatment at the hospital.
Liz Blunt, Senior Fundraising Engagement Manager for Young Lives vs Cancer, said: I am thrilled that the Engineering Team at ABP have raised such a significant amount of money. All proceeds will go to Jean’s House, which will help so many families.
Each year, ABP Southampton selects a charity that staff can fundraise for. Charities with a strong presence in Southampton or Hampshire are nominated by employees, with all employees having the chance to vote for their preferred charity from a shortlist. ABP Southampton has a few more employee events planned to continue fundraising for Young Lives vs Cancer until December 2023.
