Armed Forces Day 2016, seven years since ABP began its support of the event

Associated British Ports (ABP) is proud to support the 2023 Armed Forces Day in Cleethorpes.

Armed Forces weekend takes place from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th June, with the main event in North East Lincolnshire taking place on the Saturday featuring a formal parade, and air and land-based displays with a focus on family activities.

Simon Bird, Regional Director of the Humber ports, who is also an Honorary Captain in the Royal Naval Reserve said: “We’re delighted to be supporting Armed Forces Day once again for the duration of the celebrations in Cleethorpes.

“It’s important we recognise and honour the contribution made by our service personnel every day around the globe. From those in active duty to those who have left the services and entered civilian life. ABP employs many ex-military men and women not just in the Humber, but across the UK.”

Alex Baxter, Managing Director of the Armed Forces Major Event Team (AFMET), who produce the annual event, said: “We are again extremely grateful to ABP for their steadfast support to our Armed Forces Weekend in North East Lincolnshire and their continued assistance to enable the largest free event held on the East Coast to be enjoyed by all.”

Highlights this year will be a flypast by a Lancaster bomber to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Dambusters raid, with the Humber estuary as the backdrop.

ABP’s associations with Armed Forces Day in the resort started in 2016 when the area hosted the national event, which was attended by the then Prime Minister David Cameron and HRH Duke of Kent.
