Associated British Ports (‘ABP’) is delighted to announce that it is taking a leading role in the launch of Maritime UK’s first ever ‘Pride in Maritime Day’ on Monday, 28th February 2022.

The ‘Pride in Maritime Day’ has been created as part of Maritime UK’s ‘Diversity in Maritime Charter’ programme, which ABP joined in January 2021. It has been established to share and celebrate progress for the LGBTQ+ community in the maritime sector and its launch coincides with LGBTQ+ History Month.

Over the past 18 months, ABP’s LGBTQ+ Network has been supporting Maritime UK’s Pride in Maritime Network, through participating in roundtable discussions and sharing best practice.

As part of the launch, ABP is delighted to be hosting a live-streamed panel event on Monday 28th February. Panellists from the Pride in Maritime Network, including Commodore Mel Robinson from the Royal Navy and ABP’s own Alex Roscoe, will come together to discuss progress in ensuring maritime is welcoming for the LGBTQ+ community.  It will be chaired by Danny MGowan (He/Him), Pride in Maritime/International Organiser and Nautilus International.

Angela Morgan, General Counsel and Company Secretary for ABP, said, “At ABP, it is essential to us to foster inclusive and diverse working environments, where everyone feels welcome and valued for the work they do in ‘Keeping Britain Trading’. We’re proud to be a part of Maritime UK’s ‘Diversity in Maritime Charter’ programme and host this inaugural event to celebrate headway being made for the LGBTQ+ community in the maritime sector.”

Chrissie Clarke (She/Her), Head of Diversity and Operations at Maritime UK added: “Maritime UK is committed to ensuring the sector is welcoming to the LGBT+ community. We are delighted to be launching Pride in Maritime Day, in collaboration with the Diversity in Maritime Taskforce and Pride in Maritime Network. The launch will involve a live streamed panel event with members of our Pride in Maritime Network discussing progress to date, lived experiences and how we can break down barriers faced by our LGBT+ employees. We are grateful to ABP for hosting the event and we encourage everyone to register for the event.”
