The summer sun was still shining in Cleethorpes on Sunday as runners lined up for the ABP Humber Coastal 10k Celebration.
The event, sponsored by Associated British Ports (ABP) and organised by Tape2Tape, supported the Cleethorpes RNLI, and saw 1700 runners take up the 10k challenge; 70 of whom are completing the virtual run across the world, with runners based in Norway, Germany, Australia and Canada!
ABP are pleased to announce a further three year commitment to sponsor the race, which is set to return with the Half Marathon and 5k on Sunday 18th September 2022.
Tape2Tape Managing Director, Nicola Pattison, said:
“We are absolutely delighted that ABP Humber are continuing their support of this much loved community event. Their continued support for the next 3 years will see the return of the popular Half Marathon and 5k, which will enable runners of all abilities to participate.
The support shown to runners around the route this year was fabulous, and the finish on the Central Promenade was absolutely buzzing with excited runners and lots of spectators. Cleethorpes Band and Humber Taeko also played on the day to create a wonderful atmosphere for all.”
ABP Head of Policy, Communications & Economic Development for the Humber, Dafydd Williams said:
“This year’s event has been so successful thanks to the hard work and commitment of Tape2Tape and their team of volunteers. We are keen to continue sponsoring the annual event that does so much for local charity, and the community as a whole.”
This year’s event was organised and run with COVID safe measures in place, part of which included a staggered start over 30 minutes to help ensure runners were spread across the 10k course. A detailed briefing for runners to help them feel safe on the day was also issued ahead of the event.
The all-important water stations were looked after by the Cleethorpes District Swimming Club, and the West Grimsby Scouts, both of which will receive a cash donation for their help.
Approximately 200 volunteers supported the day by marshalling the route, helping at the water stations and handing out finisher’s t-shirts and medals. Volunteer photographers were based across the route, so if you ran on the day look at Tape2Tape’s social media channels for your picture at no charge.
Reducing waste is a key priority for the event. Local charity Grimsby Shoebox provided a brilliant drop point to take donations of running clothing and trainers from runners on the day. The donations will be used for deprived people in the UK, with some also being sent abroad to deprived and struggling countries. Tape2Tape is also donating left over race medals and t-shirts from this year’s race.

“We will continue to work alongside ABP to ensure the event is environmentally friendly and continues to support local charities and community groups. Our aims moving forward will also be to encourage people to take the step towards being fitter and healthier both physically and mentally.”
