Associated British Ports (ABP) is pleased to announce a new partnership with electrical engineering specialists Ampcontrol, a company with a long and proud Scottish heritage, which will see it invest in a new facility at the Port of Ayr.

Ampcontrol is a world renowned manufacturer of integrated electrical, electronic and control equipment, which is used to improve safety and efficiency in mining, renewable, infrastructure and industrial applications.

Its new base at ABP’s Port of Ayr marks the latest chapter in its success, following the opening of a facility in Prestwick in 2018. The new partnership will see the total refurbishment of a building located at the Port of Ayr as well as further enhancements to facilities at the port.

Steven Edmund, Managing Director of Ampcontrol UK, said “The new facility is a real testament to our team as we have continued to successfully execute our strategy to grow and diversify our business. Using our core electrical engineering and manufacturing capabilities to solve complex problems for new and existing customers is part of our DNA, and this new facility will increase our ability to do just that.”

In 2018, the company celebrated the 100th anniversary since it was founded under the name Wallacetown Engineering Company Limited by hardworking locals in the area. Today it continues its legacy of delivering excellence in design, workmanship and reliability of its products which perform across the world.

Stuart Cresswell, ABP Port Manager at Ayr and Troon, said: “We’re pleased to be welcome Steve and all of his team at Ampcontrol to our Port of Ayr. Many locals will recall that they have had a long history of supporting the town’s industry and we look forward to working with them on this new development, which is another positive step towards ensuring future economic prosperity of the region.”
