Drawing on 60 years of experience, ABP Marine Environmental Research (ABPmer) provides specialist marine environmental research and consultancy services.
UK Dredging (UKD) operates the largest British-owned dredging fleet and specialises in the provision of reliable and cost effective port maintenance dredging services.
As part of a series of commitments published in ABP Southampton’s Air Quality Strategy in 2018, encouraging employees to leave their cars at home and use more sustainable methods of travel into work, was a key focus for 2019.
ABP Southampton has recently completed work on improving the cycle network links between the city and the port and with a new, bigger bike shed, the company has created greater provision for its keen cyclists.
A flowering plant covering the roof surface area of the new bike shed enhances wildlife and urban biodiversity by providing an additional habitat for pollinating insects.
Alastair Welch Director at the Port of Southampton
“We encourage sustainable travel across the port where possible. Alongside our initiative to help make cycling to work a preferred commuting option our employees, we’re also working on making our port-use fleet of cars entirely electric or hybrid by 2020.
We continue to work with the port community and our partners to deliver on our commitments set out in our air quality strategy.”
