What did you find most appealing about doing an Upskilling Apprenticeship at ABP? How did you hear about the opportunities available? 

I heard about the apprenticeship through the Head of my department at the time in 2017. It was the first ever Chartered Management Degree to be run locally and I thought it would be a great way to develop my skills and progress within the company after already working at ABP for 4 years by then.

I was interested in the course because it was an opportunity for me to gain a new qualification that would help me in the future, and I liked that it would allow me to work with people from different industries to gain different perspectives and knowledge.

What does a typical day at work look like for you? How has your apprenticeship changed your career?

During my studying I was able to secure a promotion into my current role as Quality & Compliance Advisor. A typical day for me can vary from writing operational procedures, participating in audits against varying standards such as ISO9001, TASCC and FIAS and providing on-hand advice and support to our operational teams and other departments across the Humber.

I now also have chartership alongside my qualification as I have been successful in becoming a member of the Chartered Management Institute as a Chartered Manager.

If you could give some advice to people who would like to follow in your footsteps and do an upskilling apprenticeship , what would it be?

I would advise anyone who is interested in challenging themselves to take part in a course. While taking on additional education can be difficult and demanding, the end achievement makes it worthwhile and the opportunities and experiences you get along the way give great insights into the way we and other organisations and industries work, as well how we can improve our own way of working.
