UK Dredging (UKD) operates the largest British-owned dredging fleet and specialises in the provision of reliable and cost effective port maintenance dredging services.

At ABP we aim to create an environment that offers equal opportunities to all. We are really trying hard to increase gender diversity in ABP and to support the maritime industry as a whole. We are working closely with ‘Women in Maritime’ with a view to achieving chartered status, initially for our Southampton and East Anglian ports.

Whilst we recognise that we are on a journey, we have celebrated achieving a lot of milestones along the way. In September 2018, we worked with Maritime UK to launch the Women in Maritime Taskforce. We are currently one of 150 organisations who have signed the pledge to improve gender diversity within the industry. Achieving chartered status will ensure that we maintain our commitment to the pledge.

Sue Terpilowski, Chair of Maritime UK, Women in Maritime Taskforce, said: “We are delighted that ABP is striving to achieve chartered status. The unique charter within the maritime industry, enables organisations to create their own goals and ambitions. By setting their own timescales for these, organisations can ensure long-term success.”

Craig Barbour, General Manger for Landside Operations in Southampton is supporting ABP in this: “We already have some fantastic female employees in our region and I am looking forward to working with colleagues to promote equality and to build a more diverse workforce”.

Paul Ager, Divisional Port Manager East Coast, added:  “Achieving chartered status will enable us to celebrate our successes to date for gender diversity and give us measurable targets for improving our efforts.”
