SailGP Technical Hub at the Port of Southampton

The Port of Southampton is excited to support SailGP, the global racing championship, by establishing a dedicated technical and storage hub at the Port, playing a crucial role in providing essential technical services and logistics capabilities for the Rolex SailGP championship's Portsmouth debut.

This facility serves as the operational centre for SailGP’ s return to the UK this weekend for the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix | Portsmouth (July 19-20) to kick off the European leg of the 2025 season. Each evening, the F50 catamarans—some of the most advanced racing vessels in the world—will return to Southampton for a "pit stop" check.

Paul Reeves, Head of Commercial at ABP Southampton, said: "We are delighted to support SailGP’s technical operations here in Southampton. This partnership not only highlights our city's strategic importance as a global maritime hub but also reinforces our commitment to supporting high-performance sports."

Marine consultancy and survey company ABPmer, part of the ABP Group, serves as the official tidal modelling provider for SailGP. The organisation is supplying race-day current data at 10-minute intervals for the key races in the 2025 season, at locations where tides significantly influence surface currents.

Damon O’Brien, ABPmer’ s Managing Director, said: “We are delighted to be supporting SailGP with tidal intelligence during the 2025 season. With the SailGP teams racing the cutting-edge F50 catamarans to speeds approaching 100 km/h, tidal current information is a key data-feed used to optimise performance and inform strategy on race days.”
