The Port of Southampton welcomed over 300 staff and customers to the Port’s annual charity quiz. The event, organised by Associated British Ports (ABP), raised over £7000 in support of the Hampshire Isle of White Air Ambulance (HIOWAA). The quiz was hosted at City Cruise Terminal by ABP General Manager Tom Dynes and Solent Stevedores’ Commercial Manager, Ray Facey, which included eight quiz rounds and a final heads and tails round.

Tom Dynes, ABP General Manager of Landside Operations, said: "It was fantastic to bring together teams from across the port and raise money for a good cause that provides a vital service to our local community. Thank you to everyone who joined us for the evening and to all involved in organising the event.”

In January, ABP employees selected HIOWAA as the Port’s Charity of the Year. Since then, representatives from HIOWAA have visited the port to promote their critical care services. This quiz night is the first fundraising event for 2025, with the next being the ABP Summer Festival, followed by the Pedal, Paddle, and Pace Triathlon.

HIOWAA relies on donations and fundraising to operate. The charity provides a vital service across Hampshire and the Solent, typically responding to seven missions each day. They provide a critical care team and equipment on-site, saving crucial minutes to ensure patients receive the necessary treatment, often on the roadside.

Judith Stephens, HIOWAA Supporter Engagement Officer, said: “It’s an enormous privilege to be partnered with ABP for 2025 – and events such as these are exactly why. A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising the event and to those who came out in force to support it. The team have set the bar high for the rest of the partnership, and we can’t wait to see what’s around the corner.”

The Quiz Night is one of the many community events supported by the port. The Southampton Marathon is less than a week away. This year, the port is also hosting a new event during the Easter Holidays, inviting the local community to take part in a behind-the-scenes tour of the port.
