For 20 years ABP Humber has been supporting the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Sea Cadets.
Sea Cadet units across the UK offer young people a whole host of opportunities and experiences that help to grow teamwork, confidence, interests and skills within a safe and supportive environment both ashore and afloat; their mission being to facilitate young people to become the very best versions of themselves.
The Grimsby and Cleethorpes Sea Cadets, based next to the Grimsby Port Office, offer a host of different water based and shore side activities to its young members. From sailing, windsurfing and powerboating to rock climbing, camping and paddle boarding, along with others.
The group is run by a number of volunteers who have a range of skills. New volunteers are always welcome to simply lend a hand or become a trained instructor. A background in the Royal Navy or in water sports isn’t necessary.
ABP Humber Director, and Honorary Royal Navy Captain, Simon Bird, said:

District Chairman at Sea Cadets, Emma Walton, said:

ABP Marine Administration Manager, Graham Cudbertson, is a former Royal Navy sonar operator and has been with ABP for over 20 years. He has served aboard Royal Navy destroyers HMS York, HMS Manchester, and HMS Gloucester. After progressing through ABP into management, the association between the Sea Cadets and Harbour Authority has allowed Graham to thrive in both roles to ensure that the two offer each other the very best support they can.
The Grimsby and Cleethorpes Sea Cadets recently attended ABP Humber’s Remembrance Day Memorial Service at the Queens Steps on the Port of Grimsby. Representatives from the Cadet Unit have attended and participated in the service for many years.
The Last Post was played by Richard Jones to begin a two minute silence held in honour of those who died protecting the River Humber during the First and Second World Wars. ABP Coxswain Christopher Hughes, and Lieutenant RNR, carried out the service attended by members of the public, relatives of veterans and ABP colleagues.
