Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, Nusrat Ghani, MP, with Henrik Pedersen, CEO of ABP.
Associated British Ports (ABP), Britain’s biggest port operator, launched its Annual Review 2018/19 in parliament last week, at an exclusive lunch event hosted by Royston Smith, MP for Southampton, Itchen.
Attending the event, Shipping Minister Nusrat Ghani MP, gave a keynote speech recognising ABP’s achievements during the year and discussing some of the key themes driving the Maritime sector in the years to come, including diversity, sustainability and technological innovation. Ms Ghani also outlined her department’s Maritime 2050 campaign, which will draw the sector together to help future-proof the industry.
Henrik Pedersen, ABP’s Chief Executive Officer, also gave a speech where he thanked the Minister for her support and spoke of ABP’s ongoing commitment to investing in its people and its infrastructure, to continue offering the best services available for customers.
This year ABP’s Annual Review was made available via a limited print run and a cutting-edge, fully interactive digital version. This is a first for the company and reflects ABP’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, reducing the amount of paper used in the production of the review.
The digital version of the review is presented on an easy to navigate microsite, which also links to key elements of the company’s new website and access to the full review as a download. The new digital annual review can be found here.
Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, Nusrat Ghani, MP, said: “I am delighted to celebrate Associated British Ports last week, and always to champion our ports as a whole – they’re vital to our country, transporting 95 per cent of all our goods every day, all the while supporting business and helping to strengthen relationships with our international partners.
“Our Maritime 2050 strategy, created with industry, is our shared vision for the whole of the maritime industry over the next 30 years and sends a clear message to the world that we will continue to be a leading maritime nation.”
Henrik Pedersen, ABP Chief Executive Officer, said: “It has been another busy and successful year for ABP, which we have captured in our new Annual Review. Of course, there are some challenges to navigate this coming year, but more importantly, there are a wealth of exciting opportunities for us. That’s why we have invested a quarter of a billion pounds in our infrastructure and our people in the last three years, to make sure we can offer our customers the very best services available.
“We thank Minister Ghani for her kind words and support, thank Royston Smith, MP for hosting our event, and thank all the stakeholders who attended our lunch to catch up on what has been a great year for ABP.”
