Maths Challenge Prize Money Presentation
May 23, 2017
MATHS savvy teenagers from a New Forest school were presented with a cheque for £500 after winning the first ever ABP Southampton Maths Challenge.
Staged in partnership with Applemore College, the event attracted youngsters from schools across Hampshire – Hounsdown School, Applemore College, Noadswood School, Testwood School, New Forest Academy, Redbrisge School, Cowplain Community School and Mountbatten School.
The maths department at Noadswood School received the cheque for £500 and the winning team will be treated to an exclusive trip on a Harbour Master’s launch to show them the port from the water.
The competition was designed to allow students to apply broader aspects of mathematical thought processes rather than simply to do the same sort of questions they will see in their GCSE exams.
Head of Operations, Beth Evans-Gay explained: “The Maths Challenge was a great way to bring together eight schools of bright students to battle it out to become the 2017 Maths Champion.
“We are delighted to support the talent of the future.”
