ABP Director Humber, Simon Bird and Melanie Onn MP join veterans to lay wreaths at Grimsby’s Minesweeper Memorial
Grimsby MP Melanie Onn joined veterans and representatives of ABP at Grimsby’s Royal Naval Patrol Service Memorial – known locally as the Minesweeper Memorial - on the town’s Royal Dock, in order to remember those who have lost their lives in conflict.
The event was organised by ABP, which assisted veterans with the original construction of the memorial in 2001/02.
The group, which also included representatives of the Royal British Legion, the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Sea Cadets and council officials, observed a two-minute silence followed by a service led by ABP Dock Master Phil Christy.
Simon Bird, Regional Director for the Humber and a former officer in the Royal Navy, laid the wreath on behalf of the company.
He said: "The Royal Naval Patrol Service memorial in the Royal Dock was established by veterans with ABP’s assistance, as a permanent reminder of those who gave their lives in defence of the Nation, and we host a small service of Remembrance every year to allow local veterans and the community to pay their respects.”
