ABP SOUTHAMPTON SIGNS 25-YEAR, £6M AGREEMENT WITH HUELIN-RENOUF SHIPPING Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Southampton has signed a 25-year agreement with Huelin-Renouf Shipping, which will see the company relocate its UK operations from Flathouse Quay in Portsmouth to a purpose-built facility at Southampton’s Eastern Docks, into which ABP will invest £6m. Huelin-Renouf, which provides shipping and freight-forwarding services to and from the Channel Islands, will operate a service from ABP Southampton consisting of three calls per week. To accommodate this service, ABP Southampton will invest £6m in the construction of a dedicated lift-on/lift-off logistics terminal at 45 berth, which will include a secure compound, storage areas, warehousing, offices and two Gottwald HMK 170, 64-tonne mobile harbour cranes. Doug Morrison, ABP Port Director, Southampton, said: “We are delighted to have signed this long-term agreement and we look forward to welcoming Huelin-Renouf to the new facility in the Eastern Docks.” He added: “It is particularly pleasing to be introducing this regular liner service to a berth in Ocean Dock that suits Huelin-Renouf’s requirements so well and has, for many years, accommodated the port’s tug fleet – which will be relocated to another area of the port.“ The announcement follows Huelin-Renouf’s investment in a new vessel to replace its existing ship, m.v. Huelin-Dispatch. Expected in December 2008, the new ship has been designed specifically to operate within Jersey and Guernsey harbours and will have the capacity to ship 148 freight containers as well as out-of-gauge cargo. Keith Renouard, Director, Huelin-Renouf, said: “As a shipping company that is committed to providing an excellent service to customers and to serving the Channel Islands for many years to come, we believe relocating our UK operation to Southampton is the right decision. Operating out of the logistics terminal at 45 berth coupled with the delivery of our new state of the art vessel makes for very exciting times at Huelin-Renouf Shipping.” 11th June 2008
