ABP GOES GOLD IN BITC’S CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY INDEX Associated British Ports (ABP) has been given a ‘gold’ ranking in Business in the Community’s (BitC) Corporate Responsibility (CR) Index for 2007. The ranking, which is published annually in the Sunday Times, improves on ABP’s ‘silver’ ranking last year. The Index covers four key impact areas (community, environment, marketplace and workplace) and, based on a thorough self-assessment survey, captures the extent to which corporate responsibility is integrated into a company’s corporate strategy and how much it is put into practice throughout that company’s operational activities. The Index singled out ABP’s creation of two new wildlife sites as the Company’s key positive impact for last year. The two sites, at Chowder Ness and Welwick, have provided more than 60 hectares of vital new mudflat habitat on the banks of the Humber Estuary, which are crucial for supporting the region’s populations of waders and waterfowl. BitC said the development "shows how growth can sit with sustainability, responsibility and local engagement." ABP has recently published its corporate responsibility report for 2007, which is available at http://www.abports.co.uk/CSR%20Report%202007.htm. Zafar Khan, ABP’s Chief Financial Officer and chairman of its CSR management committee, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have received ‘gold’ ranking in this year’s CR Index because it is a recognition of ABP’s unflagging commitment to CSR. The ranking is also an endorsement of the strong CSR-management framework that we have in place at ABP." 28th May 2008
