NEW CRANE LIFTS TRADE AT TEIGNMOUTH The Port of Teignmouth, owned and operated by Associated British Ports (ABP), has taken delivery of a brand new Fuchs MHL 380 material-handling crane. The stand-alone machine is the second of its type to enter service at the port, and is capable of handling over 300 tonnes an hour. Part of an ongoing re-cranage strategy, the investment of some £410,000 in the new equipment complements the £5 million invested in the Western Quays development that took place in 2006. This involved a major reconstruction of the port’s quay walls, enabling larger ships to use the port, and with faster turnaround times. Dave Atkin, ABP Port Manager said, “Teignmouth is a versatile port capable of accommodating a wide variety of dry bulks. The arrival of this new crane gives us the flexibility and reliability we require to continue to increase the volumes we handle through the port.” Pat James, Southern Regional Manager, Hydrex Equipment UK (the UK dealer for Fuchs), commented: “We are pleased to be associated with ABP in providing the second machine for Teignmouth and, furthermore, the fifth machine for ABP nationally. The machine is ideally suited to the short-sea market, and we very much look forward to working with ABP in accommodating any such future requirements.” The Port of Teignmouth is one of 11 short-sea ports that are owned and operated by ABP, the UK’s largest and leading ports group. The port serves the area’s agricultural and ball-clay industries and has seen impressive growth in trade over recent years. 26th March 2008
