SAFE HANDS FOR ABP

Associated British Ports (ABP) has announced the promotion of Paul Fewtrell from Safety Manager to the position of Group Safety Manager.

Mr Fewtrell, 48, joined the Company in 2001, and has considerable experience both as an engineer and in the field of occupational health and safety. As Group Safety Manager, he will be responsible for maintaining a safe working environment for ABP’s 2,500 employees, as well as for many other users, contractors and suppliers of the Company’s 21 ports.

He said: “I am delighted to be given this opportunity, and look forward to continuing ABP’s practices of operating safely and of educating members of staff in order to help avoid accidents and injuries at work wherever possible. Although last year the reportable injury rate fell to 5.3 injuries per 1,000 employees, less than one-fifth of the national average for the ports industry, we always aim to reduce this rate further still.”

Paul Fewtrell holds a BEng in Mechanical and Production Engineering, a diploma in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Management, and is also a Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health. He will be based at the Port of Garston, and enjoys walking, triathlons and following Tranmere Rovers in his spare time.
