NEW BUSINESS FAST-TRACKED THROUGH ABP SOUTHAMPTON
Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Southampton was delighted to receive its first rail consignment from Advenza Freight recently, when the company, which provides intermodal, high-speed and precision logistics services throughout the UK, delivered 16 rail coaches to the port for onward seaborne delivery to New Zealand.
Advenza joins EWS, Freightliner, GB Railfreight and STVA as the latest railfreight service provider to transport cargo to or from the Port of Southampton.
As the transportation of cargo by rail removes lorry miles from the UK’s motorway system, it allows room for the port to handle higher volumes of goods without clogging-up local roads. Transporting cargo by rail also reduces the amount of carbon emitted into the atmosphere and is thus better for the environment.
Adrian Parcell, Managing Director, Advenza, said: “This first delivery to Southampton was extremely encouraging, especially considering that we completed the job just 24 hours after the request from the owners of the cargo. This is an important business development for us and we look forward to working with ABP in the future.”
Doug Morrison, ABP Port Director, Southampton, said: “As well as being excellent news for the port from a commercial point of view, the growth in railfreight movements such as this will also be of enormous benefit to Southampton and its infrastructure. At ABP, we are always keen to promote the UK’s railways – in tandem with the road network – as a viable apparatus for the transportation of goods to and from our ports.”
