PORT OF IPSWICH HANDLES RECORD-BREAKING AGRIBULKS SHIPMENT Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Ipswich recently handled a record-breaking shipment of agribulks when m.v Fedor Varaksin discharged 11,613 tonnes of granular urea – the largest single consignment of agribulks to be handled at the port to date. The cargo was shipped from El Dekheila, Egypt, for international agribulk and grain-trading company Ameropa AG, and was discharged into ABP’s Coldock Terminal and the agribulk storage facilities of port customer IAWS Fertiliser (UK) Ltd. David Blackmore, Commercial Manager for Ameropa AG, said: “Its location close to the agricultural heartland of the UK and its modern and efficient cargo-handling facilities make the Port of Ipswich ideally placed to handle Ameropa’s agribulk shipments. I would like to thank ABP for their contribution to the success of this operation and look forward to continuing to work closely with them in the future.” Alastair MacFarlane, Port Manager for ABP’s East Anglian Ports, said: “Ipswich’s record-breaking shipment of agribulks highlights the vital role the port plays in the local economy and ABP will continue to work closely with Ameropa to service the region’s bulk requirements.” ABP’s Port of Ipswich handled over 1.8 million tonnes of dry bulks in 2005. The port features a number of common-user dry-bulk storage and handling facilities, such as The Grain Terminal (Ipswich), and customers IAWS Fertilisers and Southern Cement operate dedicated facilities for the handling of imported bulks. 5th October 2006
