ABPmer GENERATES PEARLS OF WISDOM FOR EUROPE ABP Marine Environmental Research Ltd (ABPmer) has been appointed to undertake a leading role in the European Commission-funded research project ‘PEARL’. PEARL, derived from ‘Port Environmental Information Collector’, is a three-year project that will focus on collecting environmental data and facilitating closer European co-operation on port-related environmental issues. The object of PEARL is to develop a ‘port environmental data management system platform’. The platform will ‘fuse’ environmental monitoring data gathered from local and satellite-borne sources and allow interested parties to access a wide range of port-related environmental information from one central source. The ABPmer team, led by project manager Neil Pittam, will be co-ordinating the collection of information and opinions from approximately 40 European port representatives over the summer. A number of Spanish, French, Polish and Dutch companies and organisations will also be participating in PEARL, which is scheduled for completion in January 2009. Bill Cooper, Managing Director of ABPmer, said: “ABPmer is very enthusiastic about the PEARL project. We believe it is important for ABPmer to continue to participate in European research initiatives, allowing us to keep abreast of advances in port-related technologies that might be beneficial to ABP.” 24th July 2006
