ABP SOUTHAMPTON GIVES FESTIVE £2,000 TO NAOMI HOUSE For the third year running, Associated British Ports’ (ABP) has decided to send electronic Christmas cards, rather than traditional printed cards, so it can donate the money to charitable causes instead. This week, a wide range of charities around the country has been at the receiving end of the port group’s festive donations. ABP’s Port of Southampton was particularly delighted to be able to present Naomi House, a local children’s hospice, with a total sum of £2,000. This comprised both the money saved from the Christmas cards and also some other money raised when ABP hosted two guided tours of the port in August. These tours proved to be a great success in the city and, to show their appreciation, visitors donated a total of £500, which was then matched by ABP to bring the final amount to £1,000. Naomi House is a children's hospice based in Sutton Scotney, near Winchester. It provides palliative care, including respite, terminal and bereavement care and support to children with life-limiting conditions and their families from across the seven counties of southern central England. Jill Livingstone, Corporate Fundraiser for Naomi House, said: “Naomi House is a charity that is supported by voluntary contributions. On behalf of everyone at the hospice, I would like to thank ABP Southampton for their fantastic support, which makes a real difference.” Doug Morrison, Port Director, ABP Port of Southampton, added: “Naomi House and its staff are great givers to the community and we are glad to be in a position to help them in this way. The spirit of Christmas should, after all, be about giving.” 20th December 2005
