IFSPROSHARE AWARD FOR ABP’S ‘EXCEPTIONAL’ ANNUAL REPORT
Since its publication in spring 2005, Associated British Ports Holdings PLC’s (ABP) annual report for 2004 has been praised for the originality of its design and the clarity of its message to shareholders. The report has now won an award at the prestigious ifsProShare Annual Awards 2005, being named joint winner in the category for Best Annual Report for Private Investors – Non-FTSE 100 Company.
The ifsProShare awards, now in their 13th year, are regarded as the authority on what constitutes excellence in employee-share plans and shareholder communication.
ABP, which owns and operates 21 ports around the UK, was awarded the joint prize for its ‘brilliant’ report, which features isometric illustrations that represent the Company’s ports and facilities in an unexpected way. The report was praised for combining ‘excellent use of graphics’ with content that was ‘exceptional’ and ‘very clear with great descriptions.’ It was noted that ABP’s report was accessible and that the ‘use of its design device made it fun,’ while giving it a ‘tremendous ability to explain information to the shareholders.’
Since its publication, ABP’s annual report, which was produced by Merchant, the corporate-design consultancy, in conjunction with designers NB:Studio, has also been shortlisted for the Annual Report & Accounts Award — Business, in November’s Accountancy Age Awards, and named “Best Packaging, Visuals & Communication” in a special study of Europe’s best annual reports in Real IR Magazine. The report was also labelled ‘Highly Commended’ in two of PricewaterhouseCoopers' Building Public Trust Awards, one for ‘Telling It How It Is in the FTSE’ and the other for ‘People Reporting.’
Richard Adam, ABP Group Finance Director, commented: “Our annual report for 2004 has been very successful, not only in recognition of its design, but also for the clear message it communicates to our stakeholders. We are delighted to have won this award and will aim to maintain these high standards with our report for 2005.”
