ABP APPOINTS NEW COMMERCIAL MANAGER

David Leighton, 28, has recently been appointed Associated British Ports’ (ABP) new Commercial Manager. His appointment will take effect from 7 November 2005. David joins ABP from Rail Freight Group, where he served as the Development Executive for the past two-and-a-half years.

After graduating with a degree in Economics and Politics from Durham University, David embarked on a trading career with Mitsubishi Corporation, a post that included negotiating metal-trading contracts and shipping metals in Europe, Russia and Japan.

Ken Bell, Business Development Manager for ABP, welcomed David’s appointment:

“David comes to ABP with a wealth of experience, which includes assisting companies with transport issues and lobbying for changes to Government transport policy.  We are confident that David will play a vital role in ABP.”

David counts sailing among his interests; recently he took the helm of Stavros S Niarchos, a two-masted brig, for a day. Aside from sailing, David enjoys the theatre and playing the guitar.
