MARIA EAGLE OPENS GARSTON’S ABP-MAXIT TERMINAL

Maria Eagle, MP for Liverpool Garston, has today (Friday, 30 September 2005) opened the ABP-maxit Terminal at Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Garston.

ABP has invested £750,000 in the ABP-maxit Terminal – a handling and distribution facility – for leading supplier to the UK construction industry maxit. maxit, formerly known as Optiroc in the UK, started importing lightweight aggregates through Garston in 2002, and, with the completion of the new terminal, has sought to expand its operations at the port.

The new facility comprises 13,000 sq m of open and undercover storage and is equipped with an automated bagging and palletising plant.

Bo Lerenius, ABP’s Group Chief Executive, said:

“maxit is a valued customer of ABP and this new terminal is a textbook example of the way we work with our customers – responding to their needs and investing in close partnerships for future growth. This development will help Garston stand out as a highly competitive hub for the North-West of England.”

Chris Mahony, Managing Director of maxit in the UK, said:

“The Port of Garston is in an ideal strategic position to help us expand our operations through the port and ultimately reinforce our position as a leading supplier to the UK construction industry. The port handles our imports from throughout Europe, which are then forwarded on through the port’s excellent facilities and transport connections. We look forward to continuing our relationship with ABP for the future.”
