ABP TO INVEST £0.6 MILLION IN NEW TUG BERTH AT PORT OF IMMINGHAM

More than £0.6 million is to be invested by Associated British Ports (ABP) in the construction of a new tug berth at its Port of Immingham. The berth will be built for Adsteam Humber Limited (‘Adsteam’), the principal provider of towage services for vessels calling at the Port of Grimsby & Immingham, as well as other nearby riverside terminals.

ABP is investing in the new berth after signing a new 17-year agreement with Adsteam, who moor 12 of their 15 Humber tug fleet at the Port of Immingham. The berth will be located within the Immingham Outer Harbour complex, the new £35 million riverside roll-on/roll-off riverside terminal, which is currently under construction.

The new riverside berth will give Adsteam greater flexibility in servicing the vessels calling at the Port of Grimsby & Immingham. This will be the second dedicated berth built by ABP at Immingham for Adsteam.

Nick Palmer, Port Director for ABP Grimsby & Immingham, said of the investment:

“The new facility will further enhance the efficiency of towage operations, which is excellent news for customers of the Port of Immingham.”

Stephen Eastwood, Chief Executive of Adsteam Humber Limited, added:

“We are delighted with this new facility as it allows us to serve efficiently the increasing numbers of river berths on the Humber. We already have an excellent working partnership with ABP and the new berth will help us to meet our objectives, in terms of our efficiency, safety performance and customer service."
