£1.4 MILLION INVESTMENT TO BOOST PORT OF GOOLE’S DRY-BULKS TRADE Associated British Ports (ABP) is to invest £1.4 million in new dry-bulks storage facilities at its Port of Goole, following the signing of a new 10-year agreement with customers North West Trading Ltd (NWT). ABP will spend £1.4 million on the construction of a new 6,000 sq m shed at the port’s old shipyard site on behalf of dry-bulks specialist NWT. Once construction is completed in 2006, the covered storage facility will enable NWT to expand its dry-bulks trade on the Humber. The new facility will also allow NWT to develop its biomass business, which supplies environmentally friendly fuel to the power-generation industry. This is the second such investment ABP has undertaken on behalf of NWT this year. In January, ABP also invested in a similar storage facility at Goole’s sister port of Hull. Commenting on the new investment, Matthew Kennerley, Port Director for ABP Hull & Goole, said: “This is excellent news for ABP and our customers North West Trading Limited. We are pleased to work closely with NWT in developing this new facility that will enable them to develop their business in the region, especially within the burgeoning biomass sector.” NWT’s Managing Director Colin Littler said: “We are pleased to have reached this further agreement with ABP, which forms part of our company’s strategy of being able to offer our customers dedicated first-class facilities on both the east and west coast of the UK.” 5th September 2005
