HALF-A-MILLION POUND HANDLING EQUIPMENT TO BENEFIT PORT OF NEWPORT
Associated British Ports (ABP) has invested almost £500,000 in new mobile handling equipment for its Port of Newport, following the signing of a three-year commercial agreement with Arkady Feeds (UK) Ltd, one of the UK’s largest suppliers of animal feed.
The investment includes two new Hyundai HL770-7 loading shovels, two Case 445 skid-steer loaders and a specially designed 11.5 cu m grab, weighing half a tonne. The new equipment will support Arkady’s operation at the port, which will handle in excess of 150,000 tonnes of agribulks over the next three years. Work will also be undertaken to expand the port’s handling facilities, which will include retrofitting an elevated air-intake system to the port’s Liebherr LHM150 mobile harbour crane.
Martin Sage, Shipping Manager for Arkady, commented:
“We are delighted that our close partnership with ABP has enabled us to grow our business in South Wales. ABP’s investment in new bulk-handling equipment at Newport helps to underline our total commitment to providing the most efficient and cost-effective service to our customers.”
Clive Thomas, Acting Port Director for ABP’s South Wales Ports, said:
“The recent investment in bulk-handling equipment has meant that the Port of Newport continues to provide a first-class service to its customers, and combined with the recent agreement with Arkady – a highly valued customer of ABP – highlights the solid growth prospects of our South Wales ports.”
