ABP ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS OF NEW PORT DIRECTORS

The board of Associated British Ports (ABP) has announced key management appointments – John Fitzgerald, the current Port Director for ABP’s 11 short-sea ports, becomes Port Director for the group’s five South Wales Ports, and Matt Jukes, at present the Deputy Port Manager for Hull & Goole, is promoted to Port Director, ABP’s Short-Sea Ports. Mike Stacey takes over from Matt Jukes as Deputy Port Manager for Hull & Goole. For personal reasons, John Copping, the incumbent Port Director for the South Wales Ports, has decided to take early retirement.

John Fitzgerald, 42, joined ABP in 1997 as Sales & Marketing Manager for the Humber port of Grimsby & Immingham, becoming its Deputy Port Manager in 2002. He brought to ABP useful ports experience gained from working in senior management positions at the Medway Ports. John was promoted to his current position last year; his new post gives him overall responsibility for the Ports of Cardiff, Barry, Newport, Swansea and Port Talbot. John, who is married to Laura, has a BA (Hons) degree in History from Exeter University.

Matt Jukes, 34, joined the Company as a management trainee and, in the 11 years he has been with ABP, has held various operational and marketing positions at the Company’s head office, the Ports of Grimsby, Immingham and Hull.  Matt has a BSc degree in Marine Studies from Plymouth University. His new areas of responsibility include ABP’s ports in East Anglia, the North-West, the South-West and Scotland.  He is married to Caroline and they have two young children.

Mike Stacey, 41, succeeds Matt Jukes as Deputy Port Manager for Hull & Goole.  Mike joined the Company in 1990 as Financial Accountant, based in the London head office.  Prior to this, he worked for the accountants Touche Ross & Co.  In 1997, he was promoted to Finance Director of ABP’s property subsidiary, and two years later, was posted to the USA, in Baltimore, Maryland, where he became the Finance Director of AMPORTS, the Company’s automotive-processing business, which also handles car imports and exports. Mike came back to the UK in 2002 to become Assistant Port Manager for ABP Southampton, and thereafter as ABP’s Head of Special Projects.  A Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Mike has a BA (Hons) degree in Geography from Sheffield Hallam University. He is married to Jo and they have three young children.

These appointments take effect on 1 October 2005.
