PORT OF KING’S LYNN SCORES TOP RATING FOR ‘IMPROVED PRODUCTIVITY’ Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of King’s Lynn has secured the ‘Most Improved Stevedoring Performance’ award from customers Finnforest UK, after topping their 2004 supplier-productivity index. Timber importers and distributors Finnforest UK, customers of the port since 2000, reported that King’s Lynn’s average ‘per-hour timber-handling productivity rate’ rose by an impressive 35 per cent on their previous year’s levels. The Port of King’s Lynn distinguished itself by being the only port within Finnforest UK’s index to improve significantly on their previous year’s performance. Finnforest UK’s Logistics & IT Director, Mark Tonge, presented a winner’s trophy to Paul Jervis, Deputy Port Manager for ABP’s East Anglian Ports, in recognition of their achievement. He congratulated ABP King’s Lynn on its outstanding performance, saying: “ABP King’s Lynn has made significant progress this past year with its productivity levels when discharging our vessels. In most cases, they are handling a ‘non-standard’ product, which typically exceeds 14 metres in length per pack, and this makes the magnitude of their improvement all the more impressive.” Paul Jervis welcomed the award and said: “Timber is an important sector of King’s Lynn’s business, so I’m very pleased that we have received formal recognition of our expertise in handling this commodity. We are always striving to better our performance and have invested heavily in new cranage at the port, which has improved the efficiency of our operations. But most of all, this award is a testament to the skill of our experienced staff.” 18th August 2005
