PORT OF IMMINGHAM RECEIVES GREAT HAUL FROM CHINA

The first Cosco Shipping Guangzhou (‘Cosco’) vessel to call at Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Immingham for a number of years arrived recently from Xingang in China to discharge a cargo of almost 6,000 tonnes of steel products.

It is expected that the arrival of the 28,000-tonne vessel, Le Yi, will mark the start of a new service, connecting the port with the Far East.  Initially carrying import cargo but with plans to attract export business also, Cosco is confident that the service will expand to a regular call at ABP Immingham, with opportunities to increase both import and export cargo tonnages.

PD Port Services, the UK agents for Cosco UK, was instrumental in attracting the new service to ABP Immingham. Jerry Hopkinson, Managing Director of PD Ports & Logistics, commented:

“This is excellent news for the Port of Immingham. The Chinese market is growing rapidly and Cosco is China’s premier shipping line.”

ABP Grimsby & Immingham Port Director Nick Palmer welcomed the call at Immingham of the vessel Le Yi, saying:

“We are delighted to see the return of a Cosco Far East service to Immingham and are encouraged that Cosco has recognised the facilities that the port has to offer deep-sea liner services.”
