ABP CHIEF EXECUTIVE APPOINTED CBE
Bo Lerenius, Group Chief Executive of Associated British Ports Holdings PLC (ABP), was honoured by HM The Queen when he was recently appointed honorary Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) in recognition of his services to the UK ports industry.
Bo, 58, became Group Chief Executive of the UK’s largest ports group in May 1999, since when he refocused the strategy of the business which has delivered a shareholder return in excess of 100 per cent. A Swedish national, Bo is very active in the affairs of the ports and transport industry, both in the UK and overseas, presiding as he does over the business of the Sea and Water Advisory Board, and as a member of the London Council of the Confederation of British Industry, and as director of the International Association of Ports & Harbors.
Bo gained an understanding of ports and port users’ requirements from his experience as President, Chief Executive and Vice-Chairman of Stena Line, one of Sweden’s largest companies and the owner and operator of ships and a number of UK ports. Since he joined the Company, ABP’s investment programme and resources have been specifically targeted at the heart of the core business in order to maximise the growth potential of the Group’s 21 ports. These ports, which include the UK’s number-one port by tonnage – Grimsby & Immingham – play increasingly vital roles in their local communities, committed as they are, under an enlightened management that recognises the Company’s various social responsibilities, to the importance of good environmental practices and addressing the communities’ issues on education, partnerships with local and civic authorities and charitable giving.
An avowed Anglophile, Bo resides in London. He is married to Gunilla and has two grown-up children.
