NEW GENERAL MANAGER APPOINTED FOR SOUTHAMPTON FREE TRADE ZONE Simon Bamford has been appointed the new General Manager of Southampton Free Trade Zone (SFTZ), ABP Connect’s warehousing facility at Associated British Ports’ Port of Southampton. SFTZ, one of just five free trade zones in the UK, enables importers to defer payment on imported goods until they are moved out of the compound. Mr Bamford, 31, has been appointed to manage and develop the facility going forward. Mr Bamford joined ABP Connect in January 2003 as Operations Manager for ABP Connect’s Cardiff Cold Store after holding a number of positions in the warehouse and distribution sector since joining the industry as a graduate trainee in 1998. Speaking on his new appointment, Mr Bamford said: “This role will enable me to make a key contribution to the supply-chain management of ABP Connect’s customers and to be at the forefront of operations. I am looking forward to the challenge of developing SFTZ to maximise its considerable potential.” Stephen Burgess, ABP Connect’s Managing Director, welcomed Mr Bamford to his new position: “Simon comes to the role with the experience that is well suited for SFTZ and its key position in the warehousing sector. I have every confidence that he will oversee the growth and development of SFTZ over the course of 2005 and beyond.” 17th December 2004
