PORT OF KING’S LYNN SENDS STYROFOAM TO RUSSIA WITH DOW Dow Chemical Company (‘Dow’) has chosen Associated British Ports (ABP) to handle its UK exports of Styrofoam to Russia, where there is currently unprecedented demand for the building-insulation product. A shipment of 4,800 cbm has recently been made from the port, with three further shipments to be made before the end of the year. Invented by Dow more than 50 years ago, Styrofoam is used primarily in the construction industry as building and pipe-insulation material. Nick Ridehalgh, Port Manager of ABP King’s Lynn, welcomed the new business: “Dow is one of the major economic drivers in the West Norfolk region and so we were very pleased when they asked us to support their export operation to Russia. We are committed to finding new export opportunities for our customers and look forward to assisting Dow with identifying new export projects.” 7th September 2004
