LIFT-OFF FOR STORA ENSO TIMBER AT ABP IMMINGHAM

A new service for Europe’s largest solid wood-products company, Stora Enso Timber, has commenced at Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Immingham, with the recent arrival at the port of m.v. Unden, carrying a shipment of timber for the UK market.

Stora Enso Timber UK has chosen Immingham as the UK port of entry for imports of wood products from the Nordic, Baltic and central European countries. The wood products will be handled through a new dedicated import-service centre – managed on behalf of ABP by Humber Timber Terminals* - which incorporates an upgraded existing quayside warehouse and additional undercover and outside storage facilities.

Malcolm Hockey, Operations Manager, Stora Enso Timber UK, said:

“We are delighted to have started handling imports through Immingham, which – with its excellent transport links and well-established port services – is the ideal base for our operations. We aim to focus our UK imports via Immingham and therefore will bring significant volumes of timber products through this port every year.”

Stora Enso Timber’s haulage requirements are organised by Humber Timber Terminals and ABP’s value-added services division, ABP Connect.

John Fitzgerald, Deputy Port Manager, ABP Grimsby & Immingham, welcomed the start of the new service:

“The port has always been an important centre for forest-products traffic, and we have worked with Stora Enso – a well-respected market leader - for a number of years, handling paper imports. We are extremely pleased that the company has expanded its services through the port, and we are confident that the coordinated efforts of ABP Immingham, ABP Connect and Humber Timber Terminals will deliver a first-class service for Stora Enso Timber and their UK customers. We look forward to growing this business together for years to come.”
