ABP WELCOMES GOVERNMENT’S GREEN LIGHT ON HUMBER PROJECT The board of Associated British Ports Holdings PLC (‘ABP’) today (Wednesday, 7 July) welcomed the Government’s decision to permit the building of Immingham Outer Harbour, ABP’s proposed roll-on/roll-off facilities at the Port of Immingham. In February 2004, the group reached a 25-year agreement with DFDS Tor Line, the Danish roll-on/roll-off shipping line, to develop a new £35 million roll-on/roll-off riverside terminal to handle unit-load traffic in Immingham Outer Harbour. This new facility will be a 50-acre (200,000 sq m) roll-on/roll-off terminal with two roll-on/roll-off berths on the River Humber outside Immingham Lock. The new berths will be capable of accommodating vessels of up to 225 metres long, 35 metres wide, with a draught of up to 10 metres at all stages of tide.It will be the closest roll-on/roll-off terminal to the busy North Sea shipping lanes on the Humber.Immingham Outer Harbour will also provide a high level of weather protection for DFDS’ vessels. ABP will invest £27.5 million in this Outer Harbour development, which will provide a fully surfaced terminal, while DFDS will invest in terminal equipment, buildings and roll-on/roll-off ramps. The new terminal will take around 18 months to build. Bo Lerenius, ABP’s Group Chief Executive, said: “We are very pleased that the Government has recognised the need for these roll-on/roll-off facilities on the Humber, marking the beginning of an important phase of expansion for the group.”7th July 2004
