ABP GETS INTO FESTIVAL MOOD AT SOUTHAMPTON

Everything will be ship-shape for this year’s St Mary’s Community Festival which will be held on Saturday, 10 July 2004, at St Mary’s Church, Southampton. The annual event is a major highlight in the city’s calendar and this year’s maritime theme of “Gateway for the World” will emphasise the port’s connection with the city, as well as celebrate the shared heritage and rich cultural diversity that exist among the people of St Mary’s.

With the support of Associated British Ports (ABP), owner and operator of the Port of Southampton, who has come aboard as a major sponsor of the community event, the festival, once again, promises to be alive with a dramatic mix of colour and music, including a street procession led by drumming group, Banda Bat 2K.Other attractions will include Turkish belly-dancers, a circus tent featuring magic shows, ferret-racing, and a tug-of-war.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Andrew Kent, ABP Port Director, Southampton, said:

“We are delighted to be a part of this year’s festival and to highlight the port’s links with the people of St Mary’s, as well as the rest of the city of Southampton. We wish them the very best for another successful festival.”

Steve Hall, St Mary’s Community Festival Chairman, added:

“The Festival Committee was thrilled to hear that ABP will be a major sponsor of the festival this year. The port plays an extremely important role in the life of the city of Southampton, as well as the wider region, and we are delighted to be associated with ABP.”
