ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST GLAMOROUS CRUISE VESSELS CALLS AT AYR The World, a 644 ft cruise vessel, called at Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Ayr this morning (Sunday, 6 June 2004). Owned by ResidenSea, The World weighs 43,524 tonnes and carries up to 976 permanent residents, guests and crew.The vessel features onboard shops and restaurants, a library, theatre and an art gallery.It is also distinguished by its golf and tennis facilities, global-communications systems and a luxury spa. Alastair MacFarlane, ABP Port Manager, Ayr & Troon, commented: “The World is one of the most glamorous cruise ships ever built, and we are delighted to welcome the vessel to Ayr.We are extremely pleased to have started the 2004 cruise season on such a highpoint.” Councillor Andy Hill, Leader of South Ayrshire Council, said: “The visit by The World to Ayr is a wonderful confirmation of the attraction that this part of Scotland holds for operators of cruise liners and their passengers.I am delighted to extend a sincere welcome to all on board this magnificent vessel.The Port of Ayr has already welcomed numerous cruise liners, and it is to be hoped that news of The World’s visit will encourage even more to include Ayr and South Ayrshire within their itineraries.” The World began its pioneering odyssey in March 2002 on an ever-winding world voyage, featuring extended stays in ports to give residents and guests the time to experience the sights, sounds and flavours of the world's most exciting destinations. Both residents and vacationing guests are offered the flexibility of embarking and disembarking in ports-of-call of their choice; for guests, vacation stays are booked at daily fares.8th June 2004
