WAVENEY MP OFFICIALLY OPENS £1 MILLION LOWESTOFT HAVEN MARINA Waveney MP Bob Blizzard today (Friday, 21 May) officially opened Lowestoft Haven Marina in a ceremony held at the new marina. Hosted by Associated British Ports Holdings PLC’s (ABPH) Group Chief Executive, Bo Lerenius, and newly appointed Associated British Ports (ABP) Short-Sea Ports Director, John Copping, the ceremony saw Mr Blizzard unveil a plaque before an audience of local civic dignitaries, local businessmen and representatives from local yachting clubs and the marine-leisure industry. The £1 million, 140-berth marina is equipped with a range of modern facilities and was built by ABP on Lake Lothing. There has been considerable interest in Lowestoft Haven Marina since its doors were opened to the public in December last year. The ceremony, held in the marina’s newly opened bar and restaurant, was timed to coincide with the start of the yachting season. Sam Bourne, Chairman & Chief Executive of The Yacht Harbour Association, capped the proceedings by presenting Bo Lerenius with a plaque to mark the marina being awarded four gold anchors – the organisation’s internationally recognised standard of quality for marinas. Bo Lerenius, ABPH Group Chief Executive, spoke after the ceremony: “Lowestoft Haven Marina is an important development, not only for ABP, but also for the region. It is already proving to be popular with local leisure-boat users because of the easy access it offers to the open sea and the Norfolk Broads. It also boasts excellent facilities and I’m proud that The Yacht Harbour Association has recognised this and awarded the marina four gold anchors.” Bob Blizzard, MP for Waveney said: “This new facility is a great boost for Lowestoft, its port and the local economy. I’m delighted that ABP has invested over £1 million in this attraction and it has helped put Lowestoft on the map. When I visited the London Boat Show earlier this year, everyone was talking about Lowestoft and its new marina.” Lowestoft follows in the footsteps of ABP’s Port of Ipswich, which houses the award-winning, 250-berth Ipswich Haven Marina. 21st May 2004
