£700,000 FREIGHT FACILITY GRANT FOR GOOLE GOOD FOR ENVIRONMENT
Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Goole has been awarded a £700,000 Freight Facility Grant by the Strategic Rail Authority (SRA) towards the construction of a £1 million railfreight terminal at the port.

The new terminal will improve Goole’s rail infrastructure, enabling a higher proportion of the port’s cargo to be transported by rail. The railfreight terminal will handle imports of steel coils, as well as imports/exports of containers.

Douglas Morrison, ABP Port Director, Hull & Goole, said:

“We are committed to promoting the transfer of cargo from road to rail, which brings long-term benefits to ABP, our customers and the environment. This grant will help us to enhance the facilities at the Port of Goole, which is currently enjoying a strong uplift in trade.”

Construction of the terminal – which will be located by Goole’s West Dock North – involves the refurbishment of an existing rail-siding, the construction of a new 200-metre long parallel rail-siding and the laying of associated heavy-duty paving.
