TWO MILLIONTH VOLKSWAGEN TO PASS THROUGH ABP GRIMSBY DONATED TO LOCAL HOSPICE
The two millionth Volkswagen Group vehicle to pass through Associated British Ports� (ABP) Port of Grimsby was today (Tuesday, 5 August 2003) donated to the St Andrew�s Hospice, a local charity.

The Volkswagen Group operates from a 40-hectare site at the Port of Grimsby, and last year handled in excess of 192,000 vehicles through the port, imported from a variety of European ports. Volkswagen has been handling imports through ABP Grimsby since 1975.

The two-millionth vehicle � a Volkswagen Lupo � was donated to St Andrew�s Hospice by ABP and the Volkswagen Group. The hospice provides care for people of all ages with life-limiting/threatening illnesses living throughout Lincolnshire, Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire, and will use the vehicle for fundraising purposes and for picking up adult patients.

John Fitzgerald, ABP Deputy Port Manager, Grimsby & Immingham, commented:

�This is a landmark event for ABP and for Volkswagen, and we are pleased to be able to mark the occasion by helping to support the St Andrew�s Hospice. Volkswagen are a valued customer of ABP, and we look forward to working with them for years to come.�

Since St Andrew's Hospice became a registered charity in 1980, ABP has donated over �10,000 to the organisation.

Ray Street, Vehicle Operations Manager for Volkswagen, said:

�We are delighted that both Volkswagen Group and ABP, on marking the occasion of the two-millionth Volkswagen Group vehicle to pass through the Port of Grimsby, have donated a Lupo to such a worthy cause.�

Mike Gresham, Fundraiser, St Andrew�s Hospice, said:

"We rely almost entirely on donations to fund the care and support provided for patients and their families at the hospice. The donated vehicle represents a huge contribution to the provision of hospice services. Currently the only car at the hospice is a rather old and increasingly unreliable vehicle, so the donation of the Lupo is fantastic news. We greatly appreciate the support of ABP and Volkswagen and are proud to be sponsored by such prestigious and successful organisations."
