EXPANDING BUSINESS AT PORT OF BARRY
Funding from the National Assembly for Wales will help to realise plans for a
multi-modal freight-distribution depot at Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Barry.

Established ABP port customer and hauliers, John T Evans Haulage Ltd, has secured £40,000 of funding from the Assembly, after successfully being appointed the member servicing the Cardiff ‘CF’ and Newport ‘NP’ postcode areas on behalf of the national freight services company, Palletways.*

The funding is part of an investment programme in excess of half-a-million pounds by John T Evans who are expanding their operations at the Port of Barry. The investment has already resulted in the creation of 26 new jobs, taking the company’s workforce to 61 full-time staff, and the expansion of the company’s fleet of trucks from 20 to 35, while plans are in hand to refurbish the port’s Windward Terminal, which will become John T Evans’s new, larger warehouse facility.

The warehouse will provide manufacturers, retailers and importers with a pallet consignment-stockholding facility at the Port of Barry, thereby reducing their overheads. Goods can be delivered on full-load basis into the Barry warehouse, where they can be picked and processed against individual orders received up to 4pm for guaranteed delivery by 10am the next day, throughout the UK.

Clive Thomas, ABP Deputy Port Manager, South Wales Ports, explained that the Port of Barry is the ideal location for John T Evans:

“John T Evans can take full advantage of the port’s direct road, rail and sea connections, and provide its customers with the complete multi-modal package.”

John Evans, Managing Director, John T Evans Haulage Ltd, said:

“The excellent transport connections afforded to us by being based at ABP Barry, combined with the backing of Palletway’s UK-wide distribution network, ensure that we can deliver any size of palletised cargo quickly and efficiently all over the country.”
