ABP TO INVEST £1.1 MILLION AT ITS PORT OF CARDIFF
Associated British Ports (ABP) is investing £1.1 million in storage facilities at its Port of Cardiff, following a 10-year agreement with Marshall Maritime Services (MMS).

As part of the agreement, ABP will refurbish the port’s existing sheds, at Queen Alexandra Dock, to create a bespoke steel-importing facility for MMS. MMS will handle a variety of steel products – from hollow sections to steel coils – for its steel customers. In addition to this, ABP will also build a new 5,000 sq m storage-distribution facility at the port.

A shipping, stevedoring and forwarding company, MMS also uses ABP’s Port of Hull for steel and timber imports into the North-East. The company’s decision to set up an operation in South Wales will enable it to provide a comprehensive distribution network across the UK.

Budha Majumdar, ABP Port Director, South Wales Ports, said:

“This is an example of the way we grow our business – by investing in new facilities on the back of long-term agreements with quality customers. Our network of ports enables us to offer customers a flexible, versatile and complete service, and we look forward to working with Marshall Maritime Services.”

Nick Marshall, Managing Director, Marshall Maritime Services, said:

“Marshall Maritime Services has worked within ABP’s facilities for a number of years and this new operation in South Wales is the continuation of a successful partnership, through which we will be able to provide our customers with the same high standard of service at Cardiff as we do in Hull.”
