ABP CONNECT’S EXXTOR TERMINAL BECOMES NEW PORT OF CALL FOR CMA CGM FEEDER SERVICE
ABP Connect’s Exxtor Terminal – the four-berth lo-lo and ro-ro terminal at Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Immingham – has recently welcomed the arrival of a new CMA CGM weekly feeder service.

The Exxtor Terminal is to play a crucial role in the new service operated by the French-based firm, CMA CGM. Immingham is the first port of call in a route that also takes in other East Coast UK ports. The Exxtor Terminal will receive cargo transhipped from Zeebrugge and Rotterdam. Originating from the Far East, the cargo primarily comprises goods and materials for the UK domestic DIY market.

The terminal will also handle exports shipped by CMA CGM, and will be used as a location to re-position surplus empty containers.

Robert Winlo, UK Ports Operations Manager for CMA CGM (UK), commented on the new service and the importance of the Exxtor Terminal in their latest operation:

“We are confident that this feeder service will prove to be an attractive alternative to our customers, and complement our direct service calls at Southampton, Tilbury and Felixstowe.”

Mr Winlo added:

“Our customers will have the benefit of quick and easy access to a port in their proximity, thus avoiding lengthy inland haulage. This will naturally have a beneficial effect on the environment. The service will also provide us with the ability to position empty containers from surplus to deficit areas within the UK.”
Welcoming the new service, Jeffe Baker, General Manager of ABP Connect’s Exxtor Terminal, said:

“We at the Exxtor Terminal are pleased that CMA CGM has chosen us to play an important role in their new operation. Given our facilities and location, we are ideally placed to serve their needs and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship.”
