HUMBER SHIPPING AND NAVIGATION GO CYBER
Anyone who is interested can now navigate one of the busiest waterways in the UK without taking to the water, following the launch of www.humber.com - the website of Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Humber Estuary Services. From navigational charts to weather forecasts, the website offers comprehensive information on all aspects of the Humber Estuary, invaluable to both commercial and recreational users of the estuary.
ABP owns and operates the Humber Ports of Grimsby & Immingham, and
Hull & Goole, and is the Competent Harbour Authority for the River Humber, with responsibility for conservancy, as well as pilotage. The new website will provide up-to-date information on commercial and leisure shipping on the estuary, navigation and pilotage.
Captain Paul Hames, Harbour Master of Humber Estuary Services, said:
“Our new website will be a valuable source of information to people using the Humber. Every day, an average of 100 commercial vessels travel through the Humber Estuary, making it the UK’s busiest foreign-trading estuary.”
ABP’s ports on the Humber handle around 65 million tonnes of cargo every year, accounting for over 10 per cent of the country’s seaborne trade. Users of the Humber Estuary range from small leisure craft through to supertankers of 300,000 deadweight tonnes (partly laden). ABP is the UK’s leading and largest ports group, with 21 ports.
