EXPANSION OF FRESHNEY CARGO SERVICES LIMITED AT THE PORTS OF GRIMSBY & IMMINGHAM
Terminal operator Freshney Cargo Services Limited (Freshney) is set to expand its operations at Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of Grimsby & Immingham, due to an increase in trade.

Freshney will operate a new, four-hectare unit-load terminal at Immingham – currently under construction and set to be opened next month – and has secured shipping line Sea-Cargo AS as its first customer. The new terminal will include a 6,000 sq m warehouse, hard-standing and open storage areas, along with access to rail- loading facilities. In the new terminal, Freshney will be able to discharge and load cargoes simultaneously from vessels’ port and starboard sides, as well as from the stern.

In addition, the layout of Freshney’s facility at Alexandra Dock in Grimsby is also being re-organised to allow for more efficient use of the warehousing onsite, and Freshney is taking over the operation of the unit-load terminal previously used by Sea-Cargo at Grimsby’s Royal Dock.

ABP is investing £2.0 million in the project, and Freshney is investing over £1 million in the provision of mobile cranes, forklift trucks and other handling equipment.

Commenting on Freshney’s expansion, John Copping, ABP Port Director, Grimsby & Immingham, said:

“Since coming to Grimsby in 1990, Freshney Cargo Services has consistently delivered year-on-year trading growth. The expansion of facilities, supported by additional cargo-handling equipment, illustrates both ABP and Freshney Cargo Services’ commitment to developing additional traffic flows through Grimsby & Immingham.”

Malcolm Pattison, Managing Director, Freshney Cargo Services Limited, said:

“Expansion of facilities in Grimsby will provide us with the opportunity to build further on our existing cargo-handling activities. The Immingham terminal provides a new challenge that we look forward to with great optimism. The project represents a significant investment by both ABP and Freshney, and everyone in our organisation is primed do everything possible to ensure that there is a successful outcome for our company, for the port and for our customers.”
