PORT OF KING’S LYNN IS GIVEN A LIFT
Associated British Ports’ (ABP) Port of King’s Lynn has recently taken delivery of new state-of-the-art machinery to bolster the port’s cargo-handling capability. The equipment – a Fuchs MHL 380 loading machine and a Liebherr LHM70 crane – represent an investment of approximately £1 million on the part of ABP.

The Fuchs MHL 380 loading machine is to be used primarily for the discharging of dry bulk materials, and is the first material handler of its type to be used in the UK ports industry for handling applications. With a reach of 21.5 metres, the 67- tonne MHL 380 is the largest machine in the Fuchs excavator range and is capable of discharging dry bulk materials at over 250 tonnes per hour.

The Liebherr LHM70 harbour mobile crane possesses a lifting capacity of 26 tonnes and offers a full break-bulk and dry-bulk capability. Serving the port’s enclosed dock and riverside facilities, the new crane offers greatly improved cycle speeds than the port’s existing cranage.

Speaking at the completion of the deal, Steve Roby, Sales Director of Hydrex UK - the sole UK distributor of Fuchs machinery – said:

“We are glad that ABP is the first UK company to recognise the versatility of the MHL 380. The Port of King’s Lynn will enjoy the advantages of having a loading machine that has the capacity to operate in both hook and grab modes, allowing it to handle a wide range of cargoes.”

Echoing his sentiments, Gordon Clark, UK Sales Executive of Liebherr Werk Nenzing GMBH, said:

“The Port of King’s Lynn’s break and dry bulk productivity will almost certainly increase with the introduction of the LHM70. Given the layout of the enclosed dock, the crane’s mobility makes it the best tool for the port’s requirements.”

Nick Ridehalgh, Port Manager of ABP’s Port of King’s Lynn, welcomed the delivery of the new equipment:

“This investment is testament to our confidence in, and commitment to the future of the Port of King’s Lynn. The introduction of new cranage will significantly enhance our operational capability and will benefit the port’s extensive customer base.”
